# Privacy

This policy explains how the AI Index website (gencite.net), run by Developable Ltd, handles information. It also describes what AI Index for WordPress does on *your* site, so you can write your own disclosures.

## The AI Index website

This site is built on WordPress and runs our own AI Index plugin. We keep it deliberately lean:

- **No third-party trackers or advertising.** We do not use Google Analytics, ad networks, or social pixels.
- **No external fonts or CDN assets in the theme.** Fonts and styles are served from our own server, so your browsing is not shared with third parties to render the page.
- **AI bot analytics.** Like any site running AI Index, we log visits from known AI crawlers (not human visitors) to understand which engines read our content. IP addresses are anonymized and records are pruned automatically.
- **Contact.** If you email us, we use your message only to reply and provide support. We do not add you to a marketing list without your consent.
- **Email updates (optional).** If you sign up for updates, we keep your email address, the date and time you signed up and the consent wording you agreed to, in this website’s own database. Only we can see it, and it is not shared with any other service. We use it only to send occasional emails about AI Index. To unsubscribe, reply to any of our emails or write to [hello@developable.tech](mailto:hello@developable.tech), and we will delete your address. If we start using an email delivery service to send these emails, we will update this policy first.

## What AI Index for WordPress does on your site

AI Index is designed to be privacy-respecting by default. When you install it:

- **Free content features run locally.** Crawler rules, llms.txt, Markdown and structured data are generated on your site. The free build has no licensing client. Other plugins, shortcodes or content filters can have their own external services.
- **Optional IndexNow.** Enabling it sends published URLs, your hostname and your site’s verification key to the IndexNow API for participating engines. See [IndexNow privacy](https://www.indexnow.org/terms#privacy).
- **Whop Pro licence validation.** The separately downloaded Pro build sends its licence key and your site hostname to Developable when you activate or recheck a licence, and daily while a key remains saved. Developable uses its server-side API credential to check the membership with Whop, caches definitive verdicts for five minutes, and returns status and product title. The customer plugin stores the key and last verdict on your site; removing the licence stops daily checks. Whop handles purchase/account information under [its privacy policy](https://whop.com/privacy). Server access and security logs are separate from plugin-managed data.
- **Optional Pro email reports.** Reports contain crawler activity summaries and are sent to your configured recipient using your site’s mail provider only after you enable them.
- **Bot analytics are anonymized.** IP addresses are truncated before storage, the “store anonymized IP” option is on by default, and Do Not Track / Global Privacy Control signals are honored. Logs are capped and pruned automatically.
- **Crawler identification is user-agent based.** It is not proof of a visitor’s identity. Requested paths and user-agent strings can themselves contain information; assess them as part of your own privacy disclosure.

If you enable IndexNow or bot analytics, you should mention them in your own site’s privacy policy. We provide this section as a starting point, not legal advice.
